The gameplay takes its cues from the original Frogger. Additional ones are unlocked by collecting coins as a currency or buying characters right away as in-app purchases with real money.
The game is free-to-play and player starts with Mickey, just one character like the original game. Each franchise comes with a completely different environment, multiple characters and some elements that are unique for each type of scenery. The concept is largely identical, but this version was developed with licensed Disney characters from the franchises Big Hero 6, Haunted Mansion, Inside Out, Lion King, Mickey Mouse & Friends, Rapunzel, Toy Story, Wreck-It Ralph and Zootropolis.
Disney Crossy Road is the sequel to Crossy Road.
